Meet Jonah Yano, the Toronto native via Japan who wrote and recorded his first release through his cellphone in 2016. Three years later, the studio replaced the cell and his debut EP features a lush mixture of slow burning ballads, hip hop beats with subtle electronic and jazz influences. BADBADNOTGOOD, Toronto duo MONEYPHONE, and Vancouver producer Nono all lend their eclectic hands in creating a genre-blurring, emotionally impactful experience unlike any other.
Yano's singles have caught early praise from The Fader to NME, KCRW to Sirius XMU, Virgil Abloh to Gilles Peterson to countless playlists (Spotify's New Music Friday to Apple Music's Best of The Week). Complex says "if the Toronto-based auteur can ignore the pressure and keep going as he is, then 2019 and the years to come will be very, very big for him indeed."
